Georgia Tech Coming Out Week (GTCOW) 2003
In 2003, I co-chaired GTCOW and managed a huge PR campaign in order to spread the word around campus. The goal was to gain visibility for LGBT people on campus, to create a greater level of comfort using humor, and in following PR stunts, to put a face to LGBTQ people and their allies.
Thank you, Justin, Keith, and Sharon for all of your help!

Bah Finals Week

I love that beef back ribs are so cheap at the supermarket!  Nobody seems to want to deal with braising their meats, it seems.  All I did was plop them into a pot with some chicken stock, Chinese fermented black bean paste, garlic and ginger and let it braise for the better part of 2.5 hours.  The result was a savory, luscious, fall-off-the-bone meat-a-ganza which I served over steamed rice and topped with some sauteed shallots and fresh shitake mushrooms deglazed with a dry sherry.  Oh, and some garlic-annihilated brussel sprouts on the side.

This is what happens when it’s finals week and I have no desire to study.

On Love and War

They say “Make love, not war.” But what is war without love? How can we commit crimes in the name of our country, our beliefs, without love? We must love. It is truly a day towards equality when gays and lesbians are allowed to serve in the military because it is an acknowledgement that they are human, that they love. They love their country, and they might love another person, too.

I was going to make an apple pie, but when I got to the supermarket the Comice pears were incredibly ripe and begging to be used. Et voilà: a pear tart! Homemade all-butter pastry (no shortening), Comice pears and local orange blossom honey.

Vegetables don't need branding. They need better preparation.

The food industry has tried to make eating vegetables easier. Sales of convenience vegetables, like packages of cut broccoli designed to go right into the microwave, are growing. Washed, ready-to-eat bagged salads are a $3-billion-a-year business.

Ew.  Seriously, folks?  Let’s think about why kids don’t like vegetables: 1) steaming or boiling them to hell with a lot of salt or 2) they bitch and you cower or 3) you only serve them disguised as something tasty so they never think they’re eating vegetables to begin with (oh you’re so tricky).

SEAFOOD INSANITY: How to Talk about Bestiality on NPR

My exceptionally embarrassing interview with WNYC’s RadioLab has just been beamed around the world. The topic? The mysterious phenomenon of large lobster rescues. Here’s a sample from the conversation:

Robert Krulwich: “Was it its beauty?”

Trevor Corson: “I actually think that lobsters are…
